Folklife Films: A Natural Evolution
Sometimes the best changes in life aren’t about starting over – they’re about growing into something new while keeping what already works. That’s what's happening with the launch of Folklife Films, the new documentary-focused branch of awen productions.
Since 2006, awen productions has built an award-winning portfolio across the media landscape. From films and books to exhibitions, apps, immersive websites, and audio-visual archive work, the company has consistently delivered diverse, multi-partner projects that push creative boundaries. That breadth of experience remains at the heart of what awen does – interdisciplinary work with fantastic collaborators will continue to flourish.
Since Ruby Ingleheart joined awen with her brilliant community arts and media expertise, co-founder Barbara Santi has been able to focus on something that’s been brewing for years: a dedicated platform to celebrate documentary films.
Folklife Films represents the natural next step – a focused showcase for both short and long-format documentaries. What makes this platform unique is its foundation: it springs directly from awen’s co-creating, grass roots approach, where ideas are carefully nurtured and developed before taking their final form.
This isn’t about replacing what works – it’s about creating room for documentary films to grow and find their own voice while staying rooted in awen’s collaborative, innovative spirit.
